Here are a few questions I
am often asked.
THE QUESTION LIST
Q1 : Where did the
name Roahm come from?
Q2 : Why is your
site called Dragonsoft Studios?
Q3 : What exactly
is a furry?
Q4 : What is that
symbol on your logo?
Q5 : Will you draw
my character for me?
Q6 : Why is your
screen name KayproMk4?
Q7 : Where did
your accent come from?
Q8 : Why can't I
leave comments in your gallery?
Q1 : Where did the name Roahm come from?
A: Roahm actually comes from my high school art
classes. For personal reasons, I dislike my given name, so I signed
all my work at the time with my initials, RWM, interlinked, like this :
One day, someone jokingly asked me "Well, how do you
pronounce that?" So I looked at it a bit, and thought
"Hmm, well, add a few fake vowels here and there..... Row-ahm?
Hmm... Roahm..... I kind of like how that sounds." And
thus, the name stuck.
Q2 : Why is your site called Dragonsoft Studios?
A: Well, the "dragon" part should be
obvious. Anyone who knows me knows I love dragons and even identify
myself as one in the furry fandom. Dragonsoft Studios specifically
however was the name I always had in mind for my personal company were I
ever to get into the gaming industry. Thus, I use it for my site as
it is my major base of operations.
Q3 : What exactly is a furry?
A: First things first, forget everything you've been
taught by shows like CSI and ER. What you have to realize with shows
like that is they will take the part of any group that will get them the
biggest ratings. So are they going to use an average person like me,
or a weird guy in a mascot suit doing unsavory things? You do the
math. At it's most base definition, a furry is a fan of
anthropomorphic animal characters, such as those in the Disney adaptation
of Robin Hood. We create such characters as avenues of creative
expression. Myself, I am fairly low key in the fandom. I am an
artist, drawing such characters fairly frequently. I have never been
to a convention, though I do think it could be fun if I ever had the means
to go, and I do not own a fursuit, nor do I have any desire for such.
Q4 : What is that symbol on your logo?
A: That symbol comes from the game of Mahjong. It is
a Chinese game played with various tiles, sort of an ancient version of
bridge. The mark I use pertains to a tile known as the Green Dragon
tile :
There are also Red and White Dragon tiles, and these tiles
are worth extra points, labeled as "Honor Tiles." For
those wondering, the F on this tile image stands for Fā Cái, or
prosperity. This tile also represents sincerity, one of the three
cardinal virtues of Confucius.
Q5 : Will you draw my character for me?
A: This, I may have to draw a line on, no pun
intended. The thing is, I'm extremely busy with the various projects
I work on. That being said, free time is at a premium. Once I
get my commissions info more straightened out though, I will perhaps open
that to such purposes, perhaps using Paypal to take payments. This
is all to be decided in the future though.
Q6 : Why is your screen name KayproMk4?
A: This is a bit of a running joke. The first
computer I ever used was a Kaypro. Thus, when I first got onto
America Online, I chose Kaypro as my screen name in honor of this
fact. Later on, when I got my own account, I had to come up with a
new name, so I chose KayproII. A few years passed, and a friend of mine
from Full Sail jokingly grabbed the name KayproIII to jump ahead of
me. Once I had to get off of America Online, I went on AIM, and
needing to choose a new name, upgraded to KayproMk4.
Q7 : Where did your accent come from?
A: A valid question, given my location. I actually
grew up among elder Scottish relatives while simultaneously being exposed
to the dialects of Southeast Texas. Therefore, I don't have a true
Scottish accent, but rather, I suppose a blend, from growing up among
these accents in my formative years.
Q8 : Why can't I leave comments in your gallery?
A: First of all, don't worry, it isn't a problem that only
you have or anything like that. The truth is, I actually disabled
comments in my gallery. I've seen too many other online
galleries where commenting has lead to nothing but drama. Myself, I
would prefer to avoid that. The way I see it, if someone truly wants
to comment on my art, they have my contact information here on the site
and can e-mail or IM me. On this subject, there also is no reason
you would need an account on this site. There's nowhere you need to
sign in for anything, and if you want to send me fan art, simply get in
touch with me via the contact info page to e-mail it to me or such.
For now, this is all I can think of to put here. As
more questions come in, I'll add them here.
